Project Description:

Kiowa Engineering prepared the non-potable waterline replacement plans for 11,200 linear feet of new 12-inch HDPE to replace a 10-inch asbestos-cement line.  The project was along Southgate Boulevard from Interstate-25 to the Tri-Intersection Bridge on the United States Air Force Academy.  As the waterline is seasonally operated, the project was carefully timed to allow for the installation during the non-operational season.  

The course of the existing non-potable line was through habitat for the federally endangered Prebles Meadow Jumping Mouse. Criteria conformable with the Air Force Academy Habitat Conservation Plan was applied.  Directional drilling was utilized to avoid impacts to environmentally sensitive habitat areas.  The directional drilling also minimizing traffic issues on a strategic military facility where road closures were prohibited.  Kiowa provided routine construction monitoring and observation services as well.
