The Glen at Widefield (Various Projects)

Kiowa Engineering has prepared the residential design plans for the Glen at Widefield residential subdivision.  This includes Glen at Widefield Filing No. 1 through Filings No. 11 and 12, which are currently under design.  The overall site lies between Powers Boulevard and Marksheffel Road, north of Mesa Ridge Parkway.  The design of the site included, grading and erosion control, drainage analysis and design, roadway design including arterial roadway design, water distribution system design, and wastewater collection system design.  The project has developed from conceptual layout to Master Planning of the entire property to preliminary design, to final detailed design as part of a multi-disciplinary design team.  The design and construction has proceeded from the west to the east.

The overall site has design included the preliminary layout of the Powers Boulevard extension to the south, the future layout of the Powers Boulevard and Mesa Ridge parkway intersection, rerouting of the Fountain Mutual Irrigation Company (FMIC) irrigation ditch, the layout of Mesa Ridge Parkway from Powers Boulevard to Marksheffel Road, including a future expansion of the road tup to six lanes.  Powers Boulevard required an intersection for Mesa Ridge Parkway along with the associated acceleration, deceleration, and turn lanes.  A temporary secondary access was designed and constructed along Powers Boulevard prior to the permanent secondary access of the overall site to Marksheffel Road.  The site is marked with collapsible soils, which presented grading design issues with over-excavation.  The developers opted to preserve a large portion of the site as open spaces due to the potentially collapsible soils.  The Mesa Ridge Parkway alignment was pre-loaded with soil to allow for settling prior to the final construction of the roadway and bridge on the eastern portion of the site.  Utilities were sized and designed to meet the future needs of the site.

The site required detailed drainage analysis and design including multiple water quality and attenuation (detention) basins.  These structures were designed to the County stormwater regulations in effect at the time of the design.  Most of the site drains to a significant north-south drainageway located generally in the central portion of the site.  The drainageway is surrounded by the open space preserved by the developer and discharges to the south under the Mesa Ridge Parkway bridge.
